VIDEO HIGHLIGHTS – GT LACROSSE
WHAT TO EXPECT:
1. TRY OUTS: THERE IS NO COST TO TRY OUT!
Every player interested in trying out will evaluated by the GT coaching staff. Athletes will be assigned a number and will be run through a series of drills involving many aspects of lacrosse. Coaches will certainly be evaluating the players ability catch, throw, shoot and dodge with both hands. Ground balls , d face-offs will be evaluated as well. Players can also expect to run 3 v 2 and 4 v 3 drills and if time permits, 6 v 6
2. WHAT DOES A YEAR PLAYING FOR GT LACROSSE LOOK LIKE?
The GT Lacrosse program will hold its annual tryout in early August. Once teams are decided, the program will practice periodically through September and October in order to prepare for our first fall tournament (November). We understand many of our athletes are involved in fall sports. We try to arrange the practices to accommodate most (if not all) of the players in order to avoid conflicts.
After the fall tournaments, GT Lacrosse has access to a local indoor facility in order to practice throughout the winter months. These practices consist primarily of stick work (catching, throwing, shooting, dodging, ground balls etc.). It’s a great way for the athletes to practice lacrosse in the off-season as well as prepare for their upcoming spring season. There will be some team concepts included, but the main emphasis during the winter is fundamentals. Once again we realize that many of our athletes are involved in other winter sports (basketball, wrestling, hockey, etc.), so we do our best arrange these practices to accommodate everyone.
During the spring, we expect our athletes to be committed their spring rec team. We will try to arrange practices throughout March, April and May. Anticipate practices being held on Sunday nights – we will aim for at least one, but maybe two per month.
And finally, the summer tournament season. Once our athletes have completed their spring rec season, GT will begin practicing two times per week starting in the first week of June. The practices will be two hours long and not only focus on fundamentals, but team concepts as well (offense, defense (slides), man-up, man-down, riding, clearing, etc.) We expect every player to be at every practice!! Our summer season consists of four tournaments and will end in early July.
3. HOW MANY TOURNAMENTS WILL GT LACROSSE PARTICIPATE IN?
Graduation years 2025, 2026, 2027, 2028: will play in a total of 5 tournaments. We will have one fall tournament and four summer tournaments.
Graduation year 2024 will play in 3 tournaments. Cost will include practices and uniforms.
4. WHAT IS THE COST OF GT LACROSSE:
